Information Technology and the Court System

Information technology provides secure, prompt, and easy access for the public to court records, and the court system. A large and varied group of users, including the citizens of Iowa, multiple state agencies, law enforcement officers, the Department of Human Services, and hospitals, use the IT networks and systems.

All network and system users are accountable for using these resources in an ethical and respectful manner that protects sensitive information.

The Judicial Technology Committee researches and recommends goals, policies and priorities to the Iowa Supreme Court and Judicial Council for statewide judicial information technology. The Committee studies and recommends improvements in technology and automation. Membership includes judges, juvenile court staff, court clerks, court reporters, and court administration.

The Iowa Judicial Branch Information Technology Team (Judicial Branch IT) is responsible for the delivery of the network and systems.  It collaborates with other departments in the judicial branch to provide and support quality systems for Iowans and to ensure efficient processing of court documents.

Judicial Branch IT embraces emerging technologies to provide better access to justice for all Iowans, a more efficient court system, and to help the courts keep pace with a growing workload and reduced staff.
